About John Guthrie
I'm a data engineer and former software engineering manager. I started TruthfulPaws because I kept watching people buy pet products based on reviews that were barely disguised ads. The real owner experiences were out there, scattered across Reddit threads, Amazon reviews, and YouTube comments. Nobody was pulling them together. So I built the system to do it.
I grew up with dogs. I'm not a veterinarian, which is why Dr. Jamie Whittenburg co-authors articles where safety or health claims are involved. My job is building the data pipeline, writing every article, and making the editorial calls on what we recommend. If the data says a product has problems, it goes in the review.
I also volunteer weekly at Tallahassee Animal Services, where I do kennel care for the adoptable dogs. It's changed how I think about durability and enrichment. KONGs, for example, are used daily for enrichment there. Watching shelter dogs interact with products is different from reading about it.
