Real owner data. Zero sponsored picks.
Pet product recommendations built on hundreds of real owner experiences per product, sourced from Reddit, Amazon, and YouTube. Not unboxing videos. Not affiliate incentives.
Who Built This
John Guthrie — My background is in data engineering and web development. I watched friends spend real money on pet products based on reviews that were barely disguised ads. The actual answers were scattered across thousands of Reddit threads, Amazon reviews, and YouTube comments. Nobody was aggregating them. So I built the system to do it. I also volunteer at Tallahassee Animal Services, where I see firsthand which products actually hold up in real-world use.
Who Does What
John Guthrie
Founder · Data & Editorial · Shelter Volunteer
Builds the data pipeline, writes and edits every article, makes all product recommendations. If the data says a product has problems, it goes in the review.
Dr. Jamie Whittenburg, DVM
Veterinary Co-Author · Select Articles
Reviews and co-authors articles involving safety, health, or clinical claims. Her sections are labeled. She is not involved in every article.
How a Review Gets Made
We don't order a product, use it for a week, and call it a review. Instead, we sample hundreds of real owner experiences across Amazon, Reddit, and YouTube to find patterns that no single reviewer could see.
Example: KONG Extreme
1Sampled hundreds of owner reports from Amazon reviews, Reddit threads, and YouTube comments
2Categorized by breed, chewer type, and failure mode. A small subset of power chewers destroy it within days while most can't.
3Dr. Whittenburg reviewed safety conclusions: tooth fracture risk, ingestion concerns, supervision guidelines
4Published with sample sizes, data sources, and confidence levels. Where the data is thin, we say so.
How We Use AI
We use AI tools to process and categorize owner data across multiple platforms. This is what makes it possible for a small team to find patterns across hundreds of reviews per product.
AI handles
- Data collection
- Categorization
- Pattern detection
- Draft structure
Humans handle
- Recommendations
- Vet sections
- Editorial judgment
- Final review
Most review sites using AI don't mention it. We'd rather be upfront about our tools and let the work speak for itself.
How We Make Money
We earn affiliate commissions when you buy through our links, primarily through Amazon Associates. This doesn't influence our recommendations. We've published negative findings on every product we've reviewed, including ones we earn commissions on. No product on this site has paid for placement or a favorable review.
